How do I use my claims history?

We take your claims history into account when calculating your insurance premium and applying any applicable ‘No Claims Discount’. Claims history also forms part of our acceptance criteria. To validate your claims history, we may ask you to provide supporting documentation. This may include a letter of driving experience from your previous insurer. It may also include a claims history statement or other supporting documentation which we need to validate your claims history in another EU Member State, or elsewhere, if applicable.

What is a Claims History Statement?

It is a standardised form which may be used by insurers to verify third party claims history across different EU Member States. Third party claims are claims which relate to your liability to someone else for a motor accident.  If an insurer in another EU Member State asks you for a claims-history statement, you can ask us to provide you with one detailing your third party claims history with Zurich in Ireland. Similarly, if you have been insured in another EU Member State, we may ask you to provide a claims history statement relating to your third party motor claims history in that other EU Member State. As claims history statements only relate to third party claims, we may ask you for additional supporting documentation relating to your full claims history. You may need to obtain this from your previous insurer(s) in another EU Member State.
